WASHINGTON – Today, Enroll America announced the additions of Chip Kahn, President and CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals (FAH), and Stacey D. Stewart, U.S. President of United Way Worldwide (UWW), to its Board of Directors. As the Affordable Care Act continues to transform the landscape of health coverage across the country, diverse leaders from across the health and nonprofit sectors are coming together to make sure that Americans have the information and resources they need to enroll in and retain health coverage.

“I’m excited to welcome Stacey Stewart and Chip Kahn to our Board of Directors, and their unique insights will be indispensable as we work to sustain the success of the enrollment effort in communities across the country,” said Anne Filipic, President of Enroll America. “Both Stacey and Chip have a long record of outstanding accomplishment in their fields, and as the effort to inform Americans about their options under the Affordable Care Act continues, their expert guidance will help to shape our mission in the years ahead.”

As the U.S. President of United Way Worldwide, the world’s largest privately-funded non-profit organization, Stewart leads and supports more than 1,100 local United Ways working to create opportunity for everyone through strong Education, Financial Stability, and good Health. Stewart was appointed to President after serving as Executive Vice President for Community Impact Leadership and Learning at UWW. Before joining UWW, Stewart served as Chief Diversity Officer and Senior Vice President for the Office of Community and Charitable Giving at Fannie Mae. Through innovative community-based programs, online tools and outreach, free tax preparation assistance, and 2-1-1 (the telephone number for health and human services in local communities), United Way has already reached millions of Americans to share information about the importance of enrolling in health coverage.

“We at United Way are dedicated to improving the health of communities all across the country, and we see connecting kids and consumers to coverage as a major step towards that goal,” said Stewart. “That’s why I’m excited to join Enroll America as part of their Board of Directors, so we can work together towards improving the health of American families – an important building block towards a better quality of life.”

Kahn, in his role as President and CEO of the FAH, represents more than 1,000 community hospitals and health systems throughout the United States. The FAH works diligently to advocate for the value of a market-based health care system and provide the expertise and insight of its members to federal legislators and regulators, as well as to other stakeholders, the general public, and the media. Kahn’s extensive health policy expertise, outstanding leadership abilities, lengthy Capitol Hill experience, and proven campaign and communications skills make him one of Washington, DC’s most effective and accomplished trade association executives.

“I’m thrilled to join Enroll America’s Board of Directors and bring the perspective of the market-based health care industry to this important effort,” said Kahn. “There’s no doubt that the Affordable Care Act has increased health coverage in this country, which ensures that our patients have access to care when they need it most.”

Stewart and Kahn join five other board members representing the diverse stakeholders involved in the enrollment effort, including Ron Pollack, Board Chair, and Executive Director, Families USA; Vinny DeMarco, President, Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative; Roger Schwartz, former Executive Branch Liaison, National Association of Community Health Centers; Tom Epstein, Vice President, Public Affairs, Blue Shield of California; and Anthony Barrueta, Senior Vice President, Government Relations, Kaiser Permanente.
