FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, September 16, 2015
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Anne Filipic, President of Enroll America, released the following statement in response to the United State Census Bureau’s announcement that 8.8 million fewer Americans were uninsured in 2014 than the previous year, which is a drop of 2.9 percentage points:
“Today’s announcement from the U.S Census Bureau that 8.8 million more Americans got health coverage in 2014 reaffirms what we’ve long known to be true and have witnessed firsthand on the ground: uninsured Americans are eager to enroll in new, affordable coverage options. Across the country, the Affordable Care Act is making quality health coverage more accessible for every community, especially for low-income families and communities of color. And thanks to the financial assistance that lowers monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs, as well as expanded Medicaid coverage in many states, coverage is affordable for many more Americans.
While we celebrate this news, we know that our work is far from over. Moving into the third open enrollment period that begins on November 1, Enroll America will continue working with our partners across the country to expand access to information and consumer tools like the Get Covered Connector to ensure every American has the assistance they need to find (or keep) a plan that meets their health care needs and budget. Every uninsured American should know that there are resources available to help answer their questions and protect their family with quality health coverage. And working with the entire enrollment coalition, we look forward to seeing the uninsured rate in this country continue to fall thanks to the Affordable Care Act.”
