Enroll America Announces Creation of New Digital Tool to Help Consumers Easily Compare Insurance Plans

Responding to consumer research, the Get Covered Plan Explorer will help
potential enrollees understand how available plans fit their medical needs and budget

WASHINGTON, DC – As hundreds of enrollment experts from around the country gather in Washington, DC for the second State of Enrollment National Conference, Enroll America announced it will create a new digital tool to help consumers compare plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace, and make educated decisions about which plan is best for their specific situation. The new tool, known as the Get Covered Plan Explorer, will allow consumers to quickly and easily estimate their likely out-of-pocket costs for each plan available in their area, as well as make sure their preferred providers are covered. The Plan Explorer will launch in time for the third Affordable Care Act open enrollment period, and will be available free of charge to consumers and enrollment assisters in states using the HealthCare.Gov platform.

“We know that enrolling your family in health coverage can be a complicated process, and consumers want personalized information to help them navigate their options,” said Anne Filipic, President of Enroll America. “The Get Covered Plan Explorer will help consumers quickly and easily understand how an insurance plan might fit their needs and budget, and that will help even more Americans successfully complete the enrollment process and get covered.”

Over the first two enrollment periods, Enroll America consistently heard from consumers and partners in the assister community that the current plan comparison process can be cumbersome, and a survey conducted by Enroll America after the second enrollment period found that almost half of the uninsured say they lack the confidence to pick a plan for themselves in the future. To address those challenges, Enroll America partnered with Clear Health Analytics to develop a solution based on very latest data and best practices for consumer-friendly digital tools.

Consumers who wish to compare plans using the Get Covered Plan Explorer will be asked to answer a few simple questions about their health status, and preferred health care provider. Using this information, the Plan Explorer will offer visual, easy-to-read summaries of the most important information to consider for each plan. Consumers will be able to move quickly to the enrollment process when they are ready to begin, or have their results emailed to them to review or talk about with an assister. Assisters will also be able to use the tool to help consumers better understand their options before choosing a plan.

The Get Covered Plan Explorer will join Enroll America’s suite of highly successful consumer-facing digital tools, including the Get Covered Calculator (which quickly estimates the monthly premium and tax credit a consumer can expect) and the Get Covered Connector (which allows consumers to schedule appointments online for in-person assistance, and get text and email reminders). The Calculator has been one of the most popular pages on the Get Covered America website, and consumers have visited the page more than 647,000 times. During the second enrollment period, more than 2,000 assisters in 24 states and the District of Columbia offered appointments through the Connector, and consumers have scheduled more than 79,000 appointments since the Connector launched.
