Enroll America Debuts the Spanish Version of the “Get Covered Connector,” a Digital Tool that will Empower Latinos to Enroll in Health Insurance

Latinos can #GetCovered with the help of a personalized online appointment tool

April 16, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Enroll America unveiled a Spanish-language version of the “Get Covered Connector,” making it easier for Latinos to schedule appointments to sit down one-on-one with a certified expert in their community at no charge and walk through the coverage options available to them through the Affordable Care Act.

Based on Enroll America research, access to free, in-person help is critical to helping uninsured consumers understand their options and enroll in a plan that fits their need and budget, especially among minority groups like the Latino community. In fact, those who received in-person assistance during the first open enrollment were about twice as likely to successfully enroll in coverage compared to consumers who attempted to enroll without any help. Of those who enrolled in the first open enrollment period, Latinos were more likely than others to enroll in person with 34% saying they received in-person help compared to just 12% of their white counterparts.

Because in-person assistance is crucial to enrollment success, Enroll America created the Get Covered Connector to help consumers schedule appointments with experts in their community. During the second open enrollment period that ended in February, consumers used the Get Covered Connector tool to schedule more than 57,000 appointments to receive free in-person help. These assisters can also help people who currently qualify for the tax-filing Special Enrollment Period before the April 30 deadline or experience a life changing event that qualifies them to enroll during a Special Enrollment Period throughout the year. Latinos who qualify for year-round Medicaid or CHIP can also use this tool to make an appointment to enroll or re-enroll in those programs at any time.

“We think the Spanish version of the Get Covered Connector will make the difference for Latinos who need help with the enrollment process,” said Annette Raveneau, National Latino Press Secretary for Enroll America. “This digital tool will empower Latinos to make the decision where and when they want to receive the help they need to get covered and stay covered.”

According to an analysis of Gallup data, around 2.6 million Latinos have gained health coverage since 2013. But even though Latino communities saw some of the largest gains in coverage, Latinos remain more likely to be uninsured than other group. To build on that important progress and reach the remaining uninsured,  the Spanish language version of the Get Covered Connector will help to empower Latinos to enroll in a quality, affordable health insurance plan.
