WASHINGTON, DC – As tax season begins, Enroll America and Intuit TurboTax are teaming up with a consumer education campaign to make it easier for Americans to get information about how the Affordable Care Act will affect their taxes, and their options for finding financial assistance to purchase health insurance. This is the first year that health insurance status will be considered during tax preparation and the first time consumers receiving tax credits to purchase marketplace coverage will need to report that information on their tax return. Many consumers have questions about these changes, and Enroll America and TurboTax are working together to provide answers about what to expect. Enroll America will help consumers using Intuit’s industry leading TurboTax product find in-person enrollment assistance, and TurboTax experts will share their knowledge with Enroll America’s audience through TurboTaxHealth.com, a targeted twitter chat, blog posts, and a webinar.
“From our conversations in communities day in and day out, we know that taxes – and the fine for not enrolling in coverage – are on consumers’ mind,” said Anne Filipic, president of Enroll America. “For more than 30 years, TurboTax has simplified taxes and is now doing the same for health care compliance and we’re excited to work with their tax experts to make sure that consumers understand what their health insurance status means for the upcoming tax season.”
“This is the first year Americans will have to report their health care coverage on their tax return. With TurboTax, the majority of taxpayers will do that with a simple click of a button,” said Sacha Adam, ACA product leader for TurboTax Health. “By teaming up with Enroll America, we can help our customers better understand all of their coverage options and the impact those decisions will have on their taxes. We’re committed to ensuring that Americans have all of the information they need to make informed choices for themselves and their families.”
In the next few months, Americans face two key deadlines: the February 15 cutoff date for renewing and enrolling in health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace, and the tax deadline on April 15. With a shared commitment to make sure consumers have the information they need to navigate the Affordable Care Act, Enroll America and TurboTax are working together to provide the facts about the tax implications of the law.
In order to give consumers the opportunity to learn about their insurance and financial assistance options as they begin the process of filing their taxes, the TurboTax website will feature Enroll America’s consumer-friendly “Get Covered Connector” tool. If consumers want to sit down with an enrollment expert in their community to learn about their options for enrolling in coverage, they can use the Connector to find nearby in-person assisters, schedule an appointment online, and get appointment reminders via text and/or email.
TurboTax will also collaborate with Enroll America to engage consumers online and through social media to make sure they understand how the law affects their taxes. TurboTax experts will be available to answer consumer questions during a Twitter town hall hosted by Enroll America and other members of the enrollment coalition in early 2015. TurboTax will also share critical tax information with consumers and the enrollment coalition through posts on the Enroll America blog. Finally, Enroll America and TurboTax will collaborate on a webinar for enrollment coalition partners on how to best assist consumers who have questions about taxes as they consider their enrollment options.
