WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Anne Filipic, President of Enroll America, issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the appeal in King v. Burwell :
“I’m not worried that consumers will be dissuaded from signing up for coverage, because people are hungry for access to affordable health insurance. Opponents of the Affordable Care Act have been trying to hinder its success for years, and we’ve still seen more than 16 million people find coverage since the beginning of the first open enrollment. And as we head into this open enrollment, Enroll America and our partners will work to ensure consumers know that nothing has changed for them, and financial help is still available no matter where they live.
“That said, these tax credits are incredibly important: to millions of American families who wouldn’t be able to access affordable health care without them, to the viability of health insurance markets in affected states, and to the country as whole, which is a healthier and more equitable place because so many now have insurance thanks to the Affordable Care Act. The intention of the law is clearly to make health insurance affordable for all Americans, wherever they reside. That’s exactly why a number of courts have already dismissed these politically motivated challenges, and we’re confident the Supreme Court will do the same.”
