Washington, DC – Today, Anne Filipic, President of Enroll America, issued the following statement regarding the January enrollment numbers that the Department of Health and Human Services released this afternoon:
“Enrollment in the Health Insurance Marketplace continues to accelerate every month, and almost 3.3 million people have now enrolled in private coverage since the marketplace opened, in addition to the more than 6 million who have gotten covered through Medicaid. Particularly encouraging is the fact that young adult enrollment grew by 65 percent in January, the biggest increase of any age group. Based on past enrollment efforts, our research, and what we’re hearing in the field, we’ve always said that young people would wait until later in the open enrollment period to make their decision, and we’re now seeing that pattern begin to play out. The numbers also show that the percentage of Americans receiving financial assistance to help pay for their new coverage climbed even further in January to 82%. We know that affordability is the number one concern for uninsured consumers, and over the next six weeks before the March 31st deadline, we’ll be stepping up our efforts to make sure American families know about the financial help that is available.”
