Virginia Lindahl, Psychologist from Alexandria, VA, Will Have Affordable Private Insurance for the First Time in Nine Years.
Today, Get Covered America announced the latest story in its weekly #GotCovered series, which highlights consumers who have found health insurance that fits their needs and their budget through the new Health Insurance Marketplaces that launched at the beginning of October. This week, Virginia Lindahl will share her story on Get Covered America’s website. Virginia is a psychologist from Alexandria, Virginia who found an insurance plan through healthcare.gov; our previous #GotCovered story is available here.
Virginia Lindahl, 39 – Alexandria, VA
Virginia is full-time psychologist with her own practice. She’s also a mother who pays about $600 a month for health care coverage just for herself. Her plan provides very little in terms of coverage or flexibility, and she pays sky-high out-of-pocket costs because the plan excludes treatment for any of her minor pre-existing conditions.
For nine years now, Virginia has sought out other affordable private insurance options, with only denials to show for it. Everything changed when the new insurance marketplaces opened earlier this month. While she makes too much to qualify for a subsidy, the plan she has found will shave hundreds off her premium each month for considerably more coverage than the plan she’s currently in. Eager to upgrade, Virginia selected a gold tier plan for $380 a month that will finally meet her health care needs and significantly reduce the out-of-pocket costs that she’s tired of having to accommodate in her budget.
Virginia knows she wants a comprehensive gold plan because she won’t have to worry about out-of-pocket costs for the regular visits she makes to her health-care providers. “The plan I found in the marketplace will provide relief. My premium will give me coverage that will keep me from stressing over out-of-pocket expenses month to month,” says Virginia. Virginia is planning to make her first payment sometime before December 15 so come January 1, she can rest easy knowing that her premium will guarantee the coverage she needs at a much lower cost.
