Washington, D.C. – With the Affordable Care Act’s first health coverage enrollment period less than nine months away, Enroll America today announced a major national enrollment campaign.
The effort will deploy various tools developed by successful political and issue campaigns – such as online organizing, grassroots outreach, data analytics, and paid advertising – to communicate with the millions of uninsured Americans who can gain access to comprehensive, affordable health coverage for the first time.
Prior to conceptualizing this enrollment campaign, Enroll America created partnerships with many dozens of diverse national organizations, such as groups representing insurers, hospitals, community health centers, pharmaceutical companies, people in communities of color, young adults, and a wide variety of civic organizations.
The campaign will build upon these efforts and meaningfully engage all of these groups so they creatively reach out to as many uninsured Americans as possible.
Anne Filipic, most recently the Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, has been appointed President of Enroll America and will lead the campaign.
“I am thrilled to become a part of this historic effort,” Ms. Filipic stated. “Millions of uninsured Americans stand to benefit from the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. But they won’t get enrolled unless they know about it. I look forward to creating an innovative and effective campaign employing cutting-edge engagement strategies to ensure its success.”
Ms. Filipic’s background includes various key positions in the 2008 Obama for America campaign, including Field Director during the Iowa caucuses and Colorado General Election Director. In addition, she has served as Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and Deputy Executive Director of the Democratic National Committee. As an early leader in the 2008 Obama for America campaign, Ms. Filipic played a key role in developing and implementing the campaign’s successful organizing model, which has fundamentally altered the nature of grassroots engagement.
On behalf of Enroll America’s Board of Directors, Board Chair Ron Pollack announced the campaign and the appointment of Ms. Filipic: “The Affordable Care Act is an historic achievement, and it will take an enormous effort to enroll the many millions of uninsured people who can gain health coverage. This major enrollment campaign is critical to helping uninsured families across America gain the health coverage they need, and we are confident that Anne’s leadership will make it a success.”
Rachel Klein, Executive Director of Enroll America, said, “The Affordable Care Act offers millions of uninsured Americans the promise of new access to comprehensive, affordable health coverage for the first time. Delivering on that promise will require an unprecedented effort to educate Americans about the availability of these new benefits. This campaign is essential to ensuring that the uninsured get the coverage and access to health care that they need. I look forward to working with Anne and all of our partners to ensure its success.”
