Eight Million.

Another week, another enrollment milestone — yesterday, the White House announced that more than eight million Americans had picked plans on the health insurance marketplaces!

With millions more now covered by Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, all of us at Enroll America are thrilled that so many consumers are connected to their new health insurance options.

It’s worth taking a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come since October 1. As our president Anne Filipic said in a statement yesterday, “When technical issues troubled the website during the launch, our vast coalition of staff, volunteers, and partners continued to work tirelessly, eventually reaching more than five million consumers across the country with information about their new coverage options.”

Now that more than eight million have signed up, everyone who contributed to that success has a huge, ongoing opportunity to make sure as many of those consumers as possible can keep their coverage. From figuring out the process of paying premiums to navigating the renewal process, consumers can continue to benefit from in-person assistance year-round.

And our work at Enroll America is far from over. From Anne Filipic’s statement:

We will maintain over two hundred staff in our offices across the country, continuing to reach out to consumers who are eligible for Medicaid or for special Marketplace enrollment periods, like those who lose health coverage or experience a change in family status. Earlier this month, we released early observations from the first open enrollment period based on the vast data collected through our grassroots, digital, and partnership outreach campaign. In June, we will host the State of Enrollment: Getting America Covered National Conference to bring together national, regional, and local enrollment leaders to take a critical look at what worked, what obstacles consumers continue to face, and how to ensure the second open enrollment period coming in November is even more successful than the first.
