More and more Americans are finding out they’re eligible for Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Programs (CHIP). According to a new CMS report, eligibility determinations for Medicaid and CHIP shot up from 1.8 million in November to 2.3 million in December.
This brings the grand total to 6.3 million Americans determined eligible for Medicaid between October and December 2013! And the actual number is likely higher, since the new report doesn’t include assessments made through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace, and stats from some states were not reported.
Note: These numbers include those newly eligible under the Affordable Care Act, those eligible under prior law who were not previously enrolled, and some renewals.
Check out the full December report to see the numbers broken down by state.
