Clip of the Week: Got Covered in Charlotte

By William Tomasko

To highlight some of the attention our Get Covered America campaign is getting in communities across the country, we’re starting a new “Clip of the Week” feature here on the blog.

For starters, check out this compelling consumer success story that aired on January 1, the first day new health coverage became available to millions of American. WSOC talked to Tracy Morgan, a Charlotte resident (and Get Covered America volunteer!) relieved to get covered through the Health Insurance Marketplace:

When Tracy’s employer declared bankruptcy in 2010, she and her husband lost their health insurance — one year after he had been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. So she knows firsthand the security that comes with having guaranteed coverage despite pre-existing conditions.

And now she’s a local volunteer for Get Covered America to make sure other North Carolinians know about their new coverage options. Positive stories such as Tracy’s can help encourage other consumers to look at their options through their state’s health insurance marketplace.
