The Road to March 31 — Effective Outreach and Enrollment Strategies to Use Now

Enroll America hosted a six-part webinar series expanding on outreach and enrollment strategies that could have the greatest impact in a limited amount of time to maximize enrollment in health coverage. The webinar series took place over the course of three weeks from the end of February into the beginning of March, trying to focus on what could be done before the end of the first open enrollment period.

We covered concrete strategies encouraging everyone working on outreach and enrollment to capitalize on their strengths, and helped identify easy ways for all of us to evaluate our efforts and focus our resources.

We kicked off the series by showcasing a menu of effective outreach strategies that could be implemented quickly, from working with community colleges and local libraries to planning a phone-a-thon. The next five webinars provided in-depth content and action-oriented ideas about implementing each of the strategies.

Catch up on each of the topics covered with the recordings, slides, and supplementary guidance available below — and be sure to share these resources with everyone you know who is helping people sign up for health coverage!

Conducting Effective Enrollment Events and How to Get More Support

Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. ET

So you want to organize an event to provide health insurance education and conduct enrollment?  This webinar will help you plan successful events from start to finish.  As we move into March, it is important to have fixed, on-going enrollment locations that are staffed during off-hours, evenings, and weekends.  If your demand is higher than your supply and you have more people to enroll than you have staff trained to help, we presented some creative solutions and walked you through important place-based partnerships like working with libraries.

In this recording, you’ll see:

  • At the start, Dayanne Leal, Deputy Director of the Best Practices Institute at Enroll America, goes over the importance of focusing on what you already do well as we’re in the last few weeks of open enrollment.
  • Starting at 6:50, Kate Doehring, National Regional Field Director at Enroll America, explains what enrollment events are, why hosting them is such an efficient way to help consumers get covered, and the six key steps to planning a successful enrollment event.
  • Starting at 24:31, Jose Plaza, National Latino Engagement Director at Enroll America, presents on lessons we’ve learned from hosting dozens of Latino Enrollment Summits across the country.
  • Starting at 32:34, Rebecca Titford, Local Volunteer Coordinator at Organizing for Action in Alabama, reviews the ins and outs of planning enrollment events at public libraries, from promotion to execution to follow-up.
  • At 50:55, Dayanne Leal presents on why it’s so important to track and measure your outreach and enrollment efforts.

Get the answers to these questions from the Q&A:

  • At 52:47: What words or phrases can explain the penalty as part of the individual mandate most effectively to consumers?
  • At 54:27: How many hours would a volunteer spend working at one of these events?
